AUSTRALIAN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER Thomas Stewart posted the above photo to Facebook last week - and it’s caused an absolute storm online.
He’s not happy at all with guests bringing out their mobile phones during the ceremony to take pictures – and let it be known:
Look at this photo. This groom had to lean out past the aisle just to see his bride approaching. Why? Because guests with their phones were in the aisle and in his way.
He blames himself for this trend at weddings he has worked, but won’t let it happen anymore:
In the past I should have been more specific with my clients in explaining to them why guests should be told no photos. Well, from now on, I’m going to make a pretty big deal about it.
You can read his full rant about mobile phones at weddings here.
The viral post has caused a chain reaction among other photographers
None of whom are too happy with guests using phones every single second of the ceremony
There is such a thing as an Unplugged Wedding in the industry - with people documenting the ‘no phones allowed’ policy on Instagram
Stewart’s articulate piece of writing on the subject has sparked others to step forward and say enough is enough.
It turns out that the majority of wedding photographers have had it up to here with people taking their own snaps.
They are sick of taking high quality photos of other people taking photos
The ceremony only needs one photographer, according to the social media backlash that has occurred
It’s a sentiment shared by many wedding guests
And even brides and grooms
Some people ban phones from the ceremony only, and then let guests have free reign after that
Some wedding photographers aren’t bothered though – they say it doesn’t matter if you’re taking a load of photos on your phone
So, should phones be banned from wedding ceremonies?
