Will.i.am tried to sue Pharrell for using the phrase "I am"

Yes. This really happened.

Where is the love lads? Can’t we all just get lucky? What’s with all these blurred lines*? (Press Association)

N.E.R.D STAR PHARRELL Williams and Black Eyed Peas singer Will.i.am are locked in a legal battle over the legal right to the phrase ‘I am’.

We wish we were making this up, but we’re not.

We’re really not.

Pharrell Williams wants a judge in New York to rule that a trademark for his ‘i am OTHER’ company is not infringing on Will.i.am’s ‘I AM’ trademark.

The two artists have been in dispute for the past few months over the issue.
Will.i.am has owned the ‘I AM’ trademark since 2001.

He filed objections in March and May against Pharrell Williams’ company, i am OTHER, which launched in 2010.

In this latest suit filed by Pharrell he argues that he and Will.i.am are using the phrase ‘I am’ in different ways.

(I know this is getting confusing. I am sorry. Sorry I am)

According to TMZ Pharrell has invoked the Dr Seuss argument, saying that Will.i.am is making a play on this passage from Green Eggs and Ham:

Sam I am, I am Sam, I am Sam, Sam I am

Will.i.am uses “I AM” for his businesses, including his charity foundation I AM ANGEL.

Pharrell’s ‘i am OTHER’ produces the  web series Awkward Black Girl.
