WHAT BETTER WAY to sum up the mad, chaotic first 100 days of the Trump Presidency than through the crystallising, concise perfection of well delivered tweets?
And, given there’s been a whole 100 days of Trump, it’s only fitting that there are 100 corresponding tweets to do the whole thing justice.
So here goes – a complete collection:
It all began with the Inauguration on January 20th.

Who could forget how the BBC made an absolute hames of the subtitles during the inauguration process itself.

News came through that Michael Flatley was set to perform at the Inaugural Ball. Reaction in Ireland was… mixed.

Then we moved on to the Alternative Facts era of the Trump presidency. Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s first press conference started with a false claim that a record number of people (1.5 million) turned out to see Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. The next day, Kellyanne Conway said Spicer was just offering “alternative facts”, and the whole debacle became a massive meme.

That same weekend – just one day after the Inauguration – the Women’s March on Washington took place to send a signal to the Trump administration that “women’s rights are human rights”. It wasn’t just confined to the US though, as cities around the world joined in – including Dublin and Galway.

So, with a smooth opening weekend under its belt, the Trump administration marched on to the business of actually running the country. He signed some important executive orders in his very first week – including the infamous travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries. The signing of the executive orders for the cameras in the Oval Office itself became a long-running visual gag.

The federal appeals court refused to reinstate the ban so Trump took to Twitter with this message:

It was a third defeat in a row in the courts for the President.

It was also in early February that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the White House. And this happened:

He then took Abe down to Mar-a-Lago to discuss some important national security issues between the two countries (appropriate spot), where a rather excellent photo was taken of Trump in the middle of a chaotic scene:

Next into the White House was Justin Trudeau. And he was even more memeable.

Then, not to be outdone, Sean Spicer seemed to favourably compare Adolf Hitler’s actions during the Holocaust to atrocities currently being carried out by Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
