WHAT BETTER WAY to sum up the mad, chaotic first 100 days of the Trump Presidency than through the crystallising, concise perfection of well delivered tweets?
And, given there’s been a whole 100 days of Trump, it’s only fitting that there are 100 corresponding tweets to do the whole thing justice.
So here goes – a complete collection:
It all began with the Inauguration on January 20th.
Then we moved on to the Alternative Facts era of the Trump presidency. Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s first press conference started with a false claim that a record number of people (1.5 million) turned out to see Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. The next day, Kellyanne Conway said Spicer was just offering “alternative facts”, and the whole debacle became a massive meme.
That same weekend – just one day after the Inauguration – the Women’s March on Washington took place to send a signal to the Trump administration that “women’s rights are human rights”. It wasn’t just confined to the US though, as cities around the world joined in – including Dublin and Galway.
So, with a smooth opening weekend under its belt, the Trump administration marched on to the business of actually running the country. He signed some important executive orders in his very first week – including the infamous travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries. The signing of the executive orders for the cameras in the Oval Office itself became a long-running visual gag.
He then took Abe down to Mar-a-Lago to discuss some important national security issues between the two countries (appropriate spot), where a rather excellent photo was taken of Trump in the middle of a chaotic scene:
On March 4, Trump claimed that Obama had wiretapped him by bugging Trump Tower while still President. All investigations since have shown no evidence of this whatsoever.
While all this was happening with the new President, people were periodically checking back in with the old one. And Barack was doing alright for himself. The perks of going on holiday after working the most stressful job in the world for eight solid years.
On March 23, there was an 18-wheeler truck parked up on the South Lawn of the White House for a photoshoot. Trump climbed on in and it became the unexpected meme of the year.
Later that month, between April 5 and April 11, the holy trinity of ridiculous PR disasters reared their ugly heads together. First Kendall solved police brutality with a can of Pepsi, followed swiftly by United Airlines dragging d a passenger off a flight kicking and screaming.
Then, not to be outdone, Sean Spicer seemed to favourably compare Adolf Hitler’s actions during the Holocaust to atrocities currently being carried out by Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
Then, on April 17, the annual Easter Egg Roll took place on the lawn of the White House. Trump appeared on the balcony with the Easter Bunny. And, well…
