100 brilliant tweets that sum up Trump's first 100 days in office
WHAT BETTER WAY to sum up the mad, chaotic first 100 days of the Trump Presidency than through the crystallising, concise perfection of well delivered tweets?
And, given there’s been a whole 100 days of Trump, it’s only fitting that there are 100 corresponding tweets to do the whole thing justice.
So here goes – a complete collection:
It all began with the Inauguration on January 20th.

Who could forget how the BBC made an absolute hames of the subtitles during the inauguration process itself.
10.
11.
News came through that Michael Flatley was set to perform at the Inaugural Ball. Reaction in Ireland was… mixed.
12.
13.
With the inauguration over, the protests began.
14.
15.
And the comebacks.
16.
17.
Then we moved on to the Alternative Facts era of the Trump presidency. Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s first press conference started with a false claim that a record number of people (1.5 million) turned out to see Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. The next day, Kellyanne Conway said Spicer was just offering “alternative facts”, and the whole debacle became a massive meme.

That same weekend – just one day after the Inauguration – the Women’s March on Washington took place to send a signal to the Trump administration that “women’s rights are human rights”. It wasn’t just confined to the US though, as cities around the world joined in – including Dublin and Galway.

So, with a smooth opening weekend under its belt, the Trump administration marched on to the business of actually running the country. He signed some important executive orders in his very first week – including the infamous travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries. The signing of the executive orders for the cameras in the Oval Office itself became a long-running visual gag.
27.
28.
The federal appeals court refused to reinstate the ban so Trump took to Twitter with this message:

32.
It was a third defeat in a row in the courts for the President.
33.
It was also in early February that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the White House. And this happened:

He then took Abe down to Mar-a-Lago to discuss some important national security issues between the two countries (appropriate spot), where a rather excellent photo was taken of Trump in the middle of a chaotic scene:

Next into the White House was Justin Trudeau. And he was even more memeable.
40.
41.
42.
43.
Early on, people noticed some striking similarities between the Oval Office and ‘The Office’.
44.
45.
46.
On February 19th, it emerged that Rory McIlroy had played a casual round of the golf with the President. Big news.
47.
48.
49.
50.
At the end of the month, Trump made his first address to Congress.
51.
52.
53.
On March 4, Trump claimed that Obama had wiretapped him by bugging Trump Tower while still President. All investigations since have shown no evidence of this whatsoever.
54.
55.
56.
57.
58.
There was consternation when Trump read out a questionable proverb at his St Patrick’s Day address.
59.
On the same day, Paul Ryan held up the mankiest pint of Guinness at a Paddy’s Day function in Washington.
60.
61.
62.
63.
The same week, Chris O’Dowd went after the Vice President’s Paddy’s Day message with aplomb.
64.
And then the President’s.
65.
While all this was happening with the new President, people were periodically checking back in with the old one. And Barack was doing alright for himself. The perks of going on holiday after working the most stressful job in the world for eight solid years.
66.
67.
68.
69.
On March 23, there was an 18-wheeler truck parked up on the South Lawn of the White House for a photoshoot. Trump climbed on in and it became the unexpected meme of the year.
70.
There were even Rubberbandits references going viral.
71.
72.
73.
On April 3, Melania Trump’s first official White House portrait was released – and it was a full ’80s-style glamour shot.
The jokes started raining in.
74.
75.

Later that month, between April 5 and April 11, the holy trinity of ridiculous PR disasters reared their ugly heads together. First Kendall solved police brutality with a can of Pepsi, followed swiftly by United Airlines dragging d a passenger off a flight kicking and screaming.
Then, not to be outdone, Sean Spicer seemed to favourably compare Adolf Hitler’s actions during the Holocaust to atrocities currently being carried out by Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
78.
79.
80.
81.
Then, on April 17, the annual Easter Egg Roll took place on the lawn of the White House. Trump appeared on the balcony with the Easter Bunny. And, well…

83.
84.
85.
86.
One of the best – and most surreal – controversies over the last 100 days was when Kellyanne Conway completely made up the “Bowling Green Massacre”.
87.
88.
89.
90.
91.
So, so much has happened over the last 100 days. From expert pisstaking to ex-Presidents firing out gags:

94.
95.
96.
97.
98.

100.
Eh, roll on the next 100.
Can’t wait.
