18 strange things Google users search for about famous Irish people

People think Enda Kenny is WHAT? Take a look at some of Google’s suggestions for what people search for when they look up famous Irish people…

IRISH INTERNET USERS: You’ve been searching for some strange things.

When we decided to take a look at exactly what Google users want to know about famous Irish people, we decided to use the empirically tested and scientifically proven* method of looking at  Google.ie autocomplete results.

Autocomplete uses a Google algorithm to predict and display search queries based on the things that users have been searching for. So a lot of people are apparently very interested in whether Leo Varadkar is married or not, for example.

The results are slightly bizarre. Two recurring themes are searches for whether particular people are gay or straight,  married or single. There were queries about whether one politician is “actually mad” and one asking whether a famous actor is “a shark”.

Not everyone we searched for has autocomplete results – there was nothing for Micheál Martin, for example, so we used Brian Cowen instead – but take a look at the full list below. Be warned: there’s some strange results…

*To save some people time in the comments section: No, this is in no way scientific and is representative only of people who choose to ask full questions on the Google Ireland homepage. And even then, who knows what murky algorithm Google has up its sleeve?
