Bungling thief caught on camera trying to blow up ATM... and knocking himself over

The man lost his hat and flip-flops in the blast.

A MAN WHO apparently tried to rob an ATM by blowing it up has been caught on CCTV, failing miserably.

Police are seeking the would-be thief, who knocked himself to the ground during the botched attempt in Winnellie, a suburb of Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory.

On the footage, the man can be seen lighting what appears to be some kind of explosive…

… then being knocked backwards by the blast…

… and immediately making a run for it, apparently without serious injury. And also without his hat and flip-flops.

In a statement, Northern Territory police said they were called to the bank when alarms went off at around 3.45am today local time.

They found that the man had succeeded in totally destroying the ATM. But no mention is made of him managing to retrieve any money.
