Meet the 200-year-old fish caught in the US

THIS FISH CAUGHT off Alaska last month is believed to be as many as 200 years old by experts.

The shortraker rockfish was reeled in by angler Henry Liebman, an insurance adjuster on a fishing break from Seattle, the Sitka Sentinel reports.

Knowing his catch was unusually large, Liebman took it to biologist Troy Tidingco – who said he believed the animal could be “substantially older” than the previous oldest shortraker caught.

That specimen was 32.5 inches long and 175 years old, whereas Liebman’s is close to 41 inches.

Samples have been sent to the state capital Juneau for confirmation. Here’s the fish in all its glory:
