IT WAS INEVITABLE, really.

When 50 Shades of Grey came out around Valentine’s Day, it broke all sorts of box office records here in Ireland and internationally. So it’s no surprise to see it’s impacted on the world’s porn searches as well.

As Pornhub.com have helpfully graphed out, the site has seen a ridiculous spike in search terms related to BDSM since the movie was released:

The increase has been greatest among women – as the graph shows – and the US seems to be slightly ahead of the curve compared to the rest of the world.

Pornhub got quite philosophical when commenting on the issue of cinema and how it impacts on our lives:

Cinema has come to affect our lives and views in real and meaningful ways. For instance, after the release of the film Sideways, Merlot became more difficult to move off of shelves while Pinot Noir enjoyed a 16% spike in sales. Deer hunting decreased by nearly half for a few years after Bambi. In the same vein, the recent release of the film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey has been shaking things up over here at Pornhub.

So, there you have it. We’re just fascinated to see if Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 will have the same sort of impact when it comes out later this year.
