6 things we were doing and watching when Black Hole Sun was a hit
IN A BLAST from the past, grunge band Soundgarden have announced a gig in the O2 in Dublin on September 16th.
Their most famous song, Black Hole Sun, was released in 1994. You might even remember their RDS gig the following year.
What else we doing with ourselves back then?

The Eurovision was in the Point…
…And we won! For the third time in a row!

The presenters were Cynthia Ni Mhurchu and Gerry Ryan, our winning entry was Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids performed by Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan and GET THIS, the interval performance was Riverdance – the first ever time we saw it.
The year in politics
Albert Reynolds resigned as Taoiseach and John Bruton, then leader of Fine Gael, became head of the “Rainbow” government in a coalition with Labour and the Democratic Left parties. Sounds a bit familiar, actually.

BBC and RTE teamed up with Roddy Doyle and Michael Winterbottom to give us hit drama Family. It was set in Ballymun and featured Irish actors Sean McGinley and Ger Ryan. Do you remember watching it?

Meanwhile, on the silver screen – Forrest Gump, Speed, Dumb & Dumber, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction and The Lion King were all released in 1994. What a year for cinema trips!
Sporting year
We got knocked out of the World Cup by Holland. Sad times. BUT we beat Italy 1-0, one of the favourites to win.
