7 of the greatest (and scariest) toys that came to life in movies

The foul-mouthed Ted is not the first toy to come to life on the big screen: here are a few of the favourites (and not so nice ones)

A MOVIE ABOUT a bad-mouthed teddy bear called Ted is being released in Ireland this week.

Ted’s not the first toy to come to life on our screens.

Here is a run-down of some of the best-loved and some scary toys that have been injected with movie magic.

Woody and Buzz from Toy Story – There is no denying that the cowboy and the space ranger captured our hearts in both Toy Story 1, 2 and 3. Here is some of the bloopers from Toy Story 2 that we didn’t get to see. See, they are real.

Barbie and Ken – Okay, they were also in Toy Story, but this was just classic.

Chucky – Probably the reason why so many kids in the ’80s locked their dolls away at night. This doll still gives chills when he says “Wanna play?”

Small Soldiers – This 1998 movie told the story of toy action figures who came to life to start a battle. Every boy’s dream.

Pinocchio – The original toy that came to life. Disney first told us of the toy that wanted to be a real boy in 1940. The Blue Fairy grants his wish but he is tested along the way. This wooden boy spawned all toys coming to life ever since.

The Labyrinth – This iconic ’80s movie saw David Bowie in tights running around with a baby, oh and Jennifer Connolly was in it too. With a little help from the toys in her room, (which come to life in her dream, or are they actually real?) she manages to get her baby brother back before her parents get home and realise she has banished him off to a magical world. Phew, that was a close one.

The Indian in the Cupboard – A movie based on a much loved children’s book, this story is all about a boy that discovers whatever he puts in his magic cupboard comes to life. Steve Coogan also makes a notable appearance as a medical soldier.
