9-year-old is youngest nominee ever in the best actress category
NINE-YEAR-OLD Quvenzhané Wallis is the youngest nominee ever in the best actress category in this year’s Academy Awards.
She’s nominated for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, and goes up against the oldest nominee ever - Emmanuelle Riva for Amour.
Wallis was just six years old when filming began, under the direction of Benh Zeitlin.
Lincoln leads the nominations overall, with 12 nominations, including best picture, director for Steven Spielberg and acting honors for Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones.
Silver Linings Playbook is nominated in all of the main categories – best picture, best director, best actor for Bradley Cooper and best actress for Jennifer Lawrence.
Armagh cinematographer Seamus McGarvey and Kerry animator Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly are nominated for cinematography and animated short respectively.
