A touch-screen laptop for under €30?
INDIA HAS UNVEILED the world’s cheapest computer, a touch-screen device that costs $35 (€27).
The tablet was developed with students in mind and is expected to be introduced to colleges and other third-level institutions from 2011, the Times of India reports.
By then, manufacturers could have reduced the price to an incredible $20. India’s Human Resource Development Minister says that it should ultimately cost $10 per unit.
The price can be kept so low because of the huge number of students expected to purchase it.
The device is the result of the combined efforts of research teams at India’s top technological institutions. It is based on Open Source, and has no hard drive.
