Actor turned lawman: Steven Seagal is protecting the US border...for real
HOLLYWOOD ACTOR STEVEN Seagal has been sworn in as a deputy in a west Texas sheriff’s department.
The sheriff’s office confirmed to the Houston Chronicle that the martial arts expert will be working full-time to secure the US-Mexico border.
Best known for his role as counter-terrorist expert Casey Ryback in the 1992 film Under Siege, Seagal is hoping to become a real-life hero.
“It became very clear to me that Mr. Seagal is not in this for the celebrity or the publicity,” Sheriff Arvin West said when asked about the appointment.
“He’s like the rest of us that live down here, he has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help.”
According to the San Antonio Express, the 59-year-old called the department to ask for a job.
Seagal currently stars in a reality show Steven Seagal: Lawman which is based on his work in the sheriff’s department in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
However, the Hudspeth County department said a television show is not their priority.
Seagal is due to start early next year. His title will be “deputy chief to the chief deputy”.
