Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys dies at 47

Yauch, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year, had been suffering from cancer.

THE FOUNDING MEMBER of the Beastie Boys Adam Yauch has died at the age of 47.

Yauch, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year, had been suffering from cancer for a number of years.

Co-founder of the Beatsie Boys label Def Jam, Russel Simmons, confirmed the sad news on his website GlobalGrind earlier today, writing:

Adam was incredibly sweet and the most sensitive artist who I loved dearly. I was always inspired by his work. He will be missed by all of us.

The Beastie Boys gained global fame in 1986 with their track “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)”, and their debut album “Licensed to Ill” became the first ever rap album to too the US Billboard 200.

Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter.
