What's in my makeup bag? Aisling Hickey
Each week, we’ll be taking a peek into some of our faves’ makeup bags to see their must-have products, because we’re nosey. This week, it’s the turn of freelance makeup and brow artist Aisling Hickey from The Brow Artist (see www.facebook.com/thebrowartistofficial for more)
Her earliest makeup memories
“My earliest makeup memory is going into the Clinique stand in Debenhams with my Mam and two older sisters. It was such a treat to get to buy some fancy products!
“I had a really tough time with typical “teenage” acne prone skin so have always been obsessed with different ways to make it look as good as possible – ALL stick concealer back then. *shudders* This is definitely the reason why I’m so into perfecting base makeup now, gorgeous dewy skin cannot be beaten.”
Her makeup bag and what’s inside
“I don’t wear makeup every day but when I do, these are the products I can rely on to make me look half decent …”
“I could rave about MAC Strobe Cream and Oil Control lotion for days. Strobe cream is the ultimate winner if you’re looking for a primer to give you that “I’m naturally glowing/drink my green smoothies everyday” finish. However, people like me who are oily as feck by noon need Oil Control to keep the shine at bay.”
“I picked up the IT Cosmetics CC Cream stuff a couple of months ago when it was in the midst of its ‘YouTube hype’. Its a gorgeous product and does live up to all the claims.
“It’s dewy, natural looking, not heavy, basically makes your skin look like it’s not wearing anything. However, the lasting power isn’t fantastic and it’s quite expensive/can only be gotten in the states or online. I’d recommend CC creams or BB creams for during the day.”

“NARS Sheer Glow is perfect for nights out or when I know i have a long day and need my makeup to really stay put. This is hands down the nicest foundation I’ve ever used. I have this in my kit too.
“It’s got pretty decent coverage for a foundation that’s name is ‘sheer’ so don’t let that put you off. It sets perfectly, gives a gorgeous glow to the skin and doesn’t look heavy. I think that’s what we all want from a base product, isn’t it?!”
“I use Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser for under the eye only. This product is honestly as good as some higher-end products at covering black circles. I’m sure everyone has tried this already but if you haven’t, grab it when you’re next passing a Boots.
“Then, I use Essence Camouflage Full Coverage concealer for any spots or blemishes. This is a new addition to my bag and I’ve already bought 3 more tubes for my kit – LOVE it. And it’s only a few euro!”

“Ever since I worked on the Charlotte Tilbury counter, I have been a fan of the Airbrush Flawless Finish and Bronze & Glow palette. The setting powder is gorgeous for a not over-the-top matte effect, and for not setting into pores/fine lines (although I wouldn’t say no to a bit of Rimmel Stay Matte either!).
“The Bronze and Glow palette is THE DREAM. Definitely pricey but totally worth it. A subtle contour and highlight to shape the face. Use the bronzer shade all over the eyelid and the highlighter shade in the inner corners of the eye for a super quick, super brightening eye look.”

“I have been working for The Brow Artist in Ranelagh for the last year so naturally I have a bit of an obsession with brows! I usually tint them myself but when I need an extra bit of filling in and definition I use Catrice Ultra Slim Matic brow pencil.
“This has the smallest point for creating tiny lines through the brow, and it’s hands down my favorite makeup find of the year. I have 9 of these pencils as back up in my kit so that should tell you something!”

“I’m not a massive fan of spending a lot of money on mascara as it gets thrown out after 2 – 3 months. Maybelline’s The Falsies Waterproof mascara is my all time favourite. Waterproof (holds the curl better, could not live without my Japonesue lash curler!) and makes my tiny stumpy lashes look pretty impressive. Again, I have this in my professional kit.
“I’m very lazy when it comes to lip products on myself however I’ll always have this La Roche balm in at least 3 of my bags/lying around my car. If I want to add a little bit of something I’ll pop the Charlotte Tilbury liner on under or over – the most natural “my lips but better” colour.
“I’m also loving this Note BB Natural Colour balm to finish off a makeup look. It’s very moisturizing and has a really nice pink tint to it. Note Cosmetics is definitely an exciting new brand to the Irish market.”
