THERE ARE TWO types of people in this world: people who don’t really care about their birthday and people who take the whole thing very, very seriously.
Labour’s Alan Kelly most definitely falls into the latter camp.
Earlier today, Twitter user Stephanie Lord noticed that Alan Kelly has been bringing up his birthday quite a bit in recent PAC proceedings.
On May 4th, he expressed delight that Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan would be appearing before PAC on July 13th and described it as a “very good date as it is my birthday”.
On June 15th, he once again referred to his birthday, but this time he described it as a “great date”.
Catherine Murphy wasn’t too impressed.
Five days later, he managed to slip that “great date” into conversation yet again and Mary Lou McDonald was having none of it.
While Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan joked that they might share a birthday cake when the great date finally arrives.
A quick glance on the internet reveals that Kelly has always been a birthday person. Here’s a photo from his Autumn 2015 newsletter.
And here’s proof that he talked about his 40th for over two months on Twitter.
Alan Kelly: the ultimate birthday boy.
