Amy Winehouse album to be released in December
AN ALBUM FEATURING unheard material by Amy Winehouse is to be released just months after the singer’s death.
The singer’s record label announced today that the new album – Winehouse’s third – will go on sale on 5 December.
‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ will feature 12 tracks, including some previously unreleased covers, as well as new compositions by the late singer.
Multiple producers and musicians have worked on the album, including Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi. According to Winehouse’s official website, the pair spent time listening over the singer’s recordings to put together a “fitting testament” to the artist, who passed away in her London home on 23 July.
Island Records said the duo, who were considered longtime musical partners of Winehouse, quickly realised that they had a “collection of songs that deserved to be heard”.
The tracklist includes a 2002 regae reworking of the classic 60′s doo wop number Our Day Will Come and a rendition of Carole King’s Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, which was recorded in September 2004.
The songs were compiled in collaboration with Winehouse’s family, management and the label.
“If the family had felt that this album wasn’t up to the standard of ‘Frank’ and ‘Back To Black’ we would never have agreed to release it and we believe it will stand as a fitting tribute to Amy’s musical legacy,” he said in the Island Records statement.
A donation of £1 from the sale of each album will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, that was set up to assist disadvantaged children and young adults after the death of the singer
Winehouse’s last studio recording with Tony Bennett will be included on the album. Here’s another look at their haunting rendition of Body and Soul:
