Amy Winehouse 'Back to Black' dress sells for €50,000

The dress designer is donating the proceeds to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the charity set up by the singer’s family after her death.

THE DRESS WORN by the late singer Amy Winehouse for the cover of her Back to Black album has fetched over £43,000 (€50,400) at auction today.

The proceeds of the sale are being donated by the dress designer Disaya to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, set up by her family in her memory to help vulnerable youth.

Kerry Taylor Auctions said the polka-dot dress from 2006 was sold to Chilean fashion museum Museo de la Moda for £43,200.

The singer was found dead at her home in Camden, north London in July. A coroner ruled late last month that Winehouse died after consuming too much alcohol and returned a verdict of death by misadventure.

Her father Mitch Winehouse said yesterday that the dress brought back “bittersweet memories” for him.

He said that although it was good that the family would be raising money for the charity through the sale, “that dress shouldn’t be here” because his daughter should still be alive:
