Another awkward moment for Romney as aide tells reporters to 'kiss my ass'
SO BY ANY politician’s standards, Mitt Romney’s foreign trip couldn’t be described as smooth but for someone vying to be the next President of the United States of America, the last six days have been near-disastrous.
And just as he seemed to be getting over the UK leg that was less-than-Olympic thanks to his marathon series of gaffes, his aide (misnomer!) stepped in to ensure the Europe-Middle East-Europe jaunt ended as it had begun.
Travelling press secretary Rick Gorka got visibly annoyed with reporters trying to press Romney on issues, including those political slip-ups in England and the fact that he had only taken three press questions the entire trip.
“Show some respect,” Gorka warned, dressing down a New York Times and CNN reporter.
“We haven’t had another chance to ask a question,” ventured the brave NYT journalist.
“Kiss my ass,” replied the aide. “This is a Holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect.”
He also told a Politico writer to “shove it”.
Gorka eventually caught onto the irony of his statements and about 30 minutes later apologised to those he had cussed at. According to ABC’s Emily Friedman, he admitted that his remarks were “inappropriate”.
Poor Mitt, he must just want to get back to Amercia.
