'You're not alone': Busy Philipps got very honest about her lifelong struggle with anxiety

‘I used to lie awake in bed at night and I would have spinning thoughts.’

AS PART OF an initiative with The Child Mind Institute, a number of high-profile personalities have participated in a campaign entitled My Younger Self.

Among them is Busy Philipps, who rose to fame for her role in Freaks and Geeks in the late 90s.

The 38-year-old actress chose to use her lifelong struggle with anxiety as a discussion point within the campaign, revealing that she has lived with the condition since childhood.

I used to lie awake in bed at night and I would have spinning thoughts. It would be really hard for me to get to sleep and I would be so scared that I wouldn’t go to my parents’ room. I didn’t want to tell them what was happening because I thought there was something wrong with me.

Alongside Sarah Silverman, Kristen Bell, Zoe Saldana, Gabrielle Union who also contributed to the campaign, Busy directed her thoughts towards her younger self, wishing she had sought help earlier.

Once I was able to start talking about it relieved a lot of the anxiety. I was able to get help—therapy, sometimes medication. There’s nothing wrong with that either. I would’ve liked to tell my younger self not to be embarrassed or ashamed, and to open up and to talk about what’s happening.

Busy gave an insight into her struggle in a video which has been shared on Facebook in recent days.

The actress concluded her message with one of support for anyone suffering in silence.

It feels kind of incredible to know that you’re not alone. So… you’re not alone.
