AOIFE WILSON IS a gaming journalist based in London.
She originally hails from Co. Derry, but now works as writer, presenter and video producer with British gaming website Eurogamer.
Earlier today, she shared a video about why the latest installment of the Zelda series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, was the bravest one yet.
The video soon racked up thousands of views and hundreds of comments.
One person commented underneath the video with a specific question: “How the f**k do you pronounce the name Aoife?”
The commenter in question quickly received some guidance, but then another person weighed in and asserted that it was name preferred by “smug posh parents” and “morons”.
Well done morons now your kid had to spend their whole life correcting everybody and having their name spelt wrong constantly.
Hmm.
Fortunately, Aoife was on hand to set them (and the world) straight on the matter.
She wrote:
Yeah, or it’s a traditional Irish name, consistently one of the most popular girl’s names in the country. Other cultures and heritages are a thing, and I’m proud of it,
PREACH IT, SISTER.
The original commenter backed down and encouraged Aoife to embrace her heritage.
Until someone brought the name Siobhán into the equation.
Oh God, this is going to be a long night
