ARIEL WINTER, BETTER known for playing the role of Alex Dunphy in Modern Family, has criticised the media for constantly scrutinising her – and her wardrobe.
In a self-described “rant”, 19-year-old Winter said she is simply trying to live her life, and struggles with the constant paparazzi presence.
“Something I wish people would realize … I am not TRYING to be featured on Snapchat, I am not trying to be pap’d everywhere I do, I am literally just LIVING and unfortunately, I can’t do that without paparazzi following me around everyday.”
I’m not trying to show you my ass in shorts when I go to the grocery store. I’m trying to live my life. People wear shorts. People have wardrobe malfunctions. No one is perfect.”
Winter regularly features on the Daily Mail’s Discover Page on Snapchat, with the angle of the story typically focused on her choice of outfit on that particularly day.
Her comments come following photos released this month, in which she can seen grocery shopping in a pair of denim shorts.
Currently, there are 2,310 articles published on the Daily Mail website about Ariel Winter, her body or her choice of attire.
Seems a little excessive, considering the topic never changes and isn’t really that note-worthy.
Winter also took to the time to address those commenting on her childhood trauma.
She is emancipated from her mother Crystal Workman after what the actress described as years of physical and emotional abuse. She previously described how her mother started sexualizing her at a very young age, dressing her in “the smallest miniskirts, sailor suits, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you’ve ever seen.”
I’d also like to address the tweets I get saying ‘you accused your mother of sexualizing you yet you’re a whore.’ I was a CHILD being dressed like I was 24. I was 8-13 years old. I wasn’t an ADULT as I am now. As you mature at 16, 17, 18 you further develop your own identity and can make decisions for yourself. As a child, you do as you’re told regardless of what is good for you.”
Ending her note, Winter said: “I have EXTREME respect for myself, I HAVE talent, and I AM intelligent.”
We need to move on from this stigma that women who are comfortable with their bodies and their sexuality are just ‘dumb sluts’.”
We’re here for that TBH.
