Eoghan McDermott posts moving video about his own self-harm experience
HE’S PROBABLY BEST known as that lad from The Voice of Ireland these days but Eoghan McDermott took a moment to discuss something far more serious online.
The TV and radio presenter recently helped launch the Darkness Into Light charity run for Pieta House - an Irish centre for the prevention of self-harm or suicide - and was asked why he had chosen to get involved by a journalist at the event.
McDermott took to YouTube to explain that while he gave the journalist an honest explanation, he hadn’t exactly been telling the whole truth at the time.
“The real reason this event resonated with me personally is that I used to self harm”, McDermott revealed, explaining exactly why he had done so and adding that he hadn’t really spoken about it before.
He said he hoped his decision to finally speak about his own experience might encourage others to do the same.
McDermott invited those watching to share the video with friends and signed off with a final message:
The Darkness Into Light run will take place on May 10th and full details can be found on Pieta House’s official website.
