KEEP AN EYE out the next time you choose to widdle in public.
You never know, you might find an ancient Irish artefact. Or something.
While riding his motorcycle home from work last week, 20-year-old Xu Yuanguang from Chengdu in southwest China felt the call of nature and stopped to relieve himself on the roadside.
Urinating in public is a very touchy subject in China, and Xu could have been fined for his actions – but we’re thinking the authorities will probably let this one slide.
The Wall Street Journal reports that as he was doing his business at the side of the road, the soil washed away to reveal a colourful object.
It turned out to be a small terracotta figure that dated back to the Song dynasty (960 to 1276).
Archaeologists think the 750-year-old object could have been an object that was buried inside ancestors’ tombs to ward off evil spirits.
But unfortunately for Xu, his find won’t make him rich.
This figurine is not considered rare as there are similar discoveries in the Sichuan province all the time, so he left the object with the state.
He did get a lovely “certificate of appreciation” though, so we guess that’s just as good. Right?
