FOLLOWING YESTERDAY’S SHOOTING in Ottawa, which saw one unarmed soldier shot and killed by a gunman, Canadian commentator Rex Murphy made some remarks about the incident on his show The National.
In the two-minute segment, Murphy describes the shooting as ”a bottomless cowardice and a perversion” and pays tribute to late soldier Nathan Cirillo, as well as Sgt. at Arms Kevin Vickers, who shot the gunman.
Aside from the eloquence and thoughtfulness of Murphy’s remarks, the segment has attracted widespread praise on the internet as an example of how to report a tragedy. (Ahem, CNN/Fox.)
Additionally his decision to not identify the shooter in his report was also welcomed.
That’s how you do it.
