IT HAS BEEN announced that 50,000 new words have been added to the Collins Dictionary, including adorkable, bakeoff and twerking.

The latest edition is released today and to mark the occasion, Collins Dictionary announced that its word of the year is ”photobomb’ following several high-profile instances of photobombing. (Em, remember the Queen photobombing the Australian women’s hockey team?)

Photobomb beat out ‘bakeoff’ and Scottish referendum buzz term ‘devo max’ for the coveted title.

Other words included in the newly published edition include vape, twerking and meme. Al desko, a term used to describe the sad reality of eating at your desk, was also included.

Chambers Dictionary, meanwhile, awarded its title of word of the year to overshare. (Ooh, dictionary wars.)

The publisher described the word as “beautifully British” and said it came with “a hint of understatement”.

There is nothing aggressive or in-your-face about it. It’s subtle, yet devastating; a put-down few would want laid at their door.

Chambers Dictionary also added the terms fraping, click fraud, cyber bullying and gripe sites to its tome. Most crucially, however, it updated its definition of the word “hipster”.
