DEBATE IN THE the same-sex marriage got intense on RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland today, with guests such as Breda O’Brien of the Iona Institute and openly gay TD Dominic Hannigan.
While arguing about gay couples and adoption, O’Brien said she didn’t have a problem with a grandmother and a mother raising a child – but when asked about the difference between that situation and a lesbian couple having a baby, she uttered the now-immortal words:
Do you think we should change the Constitution to allow grandmothers and their daughters to marry?
‘Breda O’Brien’ soon became a trending Twitter topic all over the world, and the country was shaken by the rather worrying revelation that loads of people actually would like to marry their mams.*
