WHETHER YOU LOVE them or loathe them, selfie sticks are slowly taking over the world.
Since Christmas, they have become the choice gadget of tweens and adults alike with many taking them on holidays and to special events.
However, it seems that the backlash has begun with many venues taking steps to ban the devices. Over the weekend, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art confirmed that it would be banning patrons from using the device on its premises.
Other venues to ban selfie sticks include MoMA, London’s O2 Arena and Wembley Arena.
Now it seems that Ireland’s 3Arena has followed suit and officially prohibited concert-goers from using selfie sticks during gigs.
The FAQ on the venue’s official website was recently updated to reflect this.
A spokesperson for the 3Arena told DailyEdge.ie that it was “purely down to health and safety” and described it as a “precautionary measure”.
Over the past year, selfie sticks have become extraordinarily popular in Asia, particularly in countries like Indonesia and South Korea, where they are commonly used at concerts.
