A TINY KITTEN snooping about her new home started a fire, then alerted her owners to the blaze.
According to the Manchester Evening News, six-week-old Jesse had only been with her new owners for two days when the incident occurred.
While the cat was exploring the house in the middle of the night, she managed to knock over a lit candle and start a fire.
Alarmed, she mewed loudly – and her cries woke her owner, 12-year-old Hal Rogers. He alerted the rest of the family, who were forced to flee the house without Jesse.
Mum Lynn told the Evening News that the fire was like “something from a film”:
The smoke was really bad upstairs, my daughter Ellie was hanging out her bedroom window trying to get some clean air to breathe.
Firefighters arrived to tend the blaze and hunt for Jesse – and just as the family was beginning to lose hope, a firefighter emerged from the burning building holding the tiny kitten in his palm.
“We all just started screaming,” said Lynn.
It’s unbelievable that we were all struggling to breathe and Jesse, with her tiny lungs, managed to survive the flames and smoke.
That would be the nine lives. Eight to go, Jesse. Mind yourself.
