WITH THE PASSING of the marriage referendum, yesterday was a joyous day for most of the country – but one particular constituency felt Ireland’s scorn.
Roscommon/South Leitrim was the only constituency in Ireland to return a No vote, which lead to a lot of snarky (but jokey) comments.
Roscommon/South Leitrim people weren’t too thrilled with this, as you might expect. A large-scale defence of the constituency ensued, lead by RTÉ presenter Paddy McKenna – who penned a blog post in support:
17,615 people in Ros/South Leitrim voted Yes. I hope they are joining the rest of the country in celebrating this proud moment in our nation’s history and not downtrodden because some cloistered urbanites have decided it’s a good time to hit the culchie thicks with a stick.
Roscommon/South Leitrim Yes voters spoke out
People pointed out how close the margin was
Some gave shout outs to the hardworking campaigners in the constituency
And Roscommon’s best-known export weighed in
Don’t worry Roscommon/South Leitrim. We still love you.
