IT’S TIME TO welcome another pub to your environs, Dublin 2.
The Square Ball has just opened up shop on Hogan Place near Dublin’s Grand Canal. From the same people who brought you The Bernard Shaw and The Back Page, The Square Ball bills itself as a sports bar.
But this isn’t your typical sports bar.
Shane Linehan of The Square Ball told DailyEdge.ie that the pub’s decor and selection of craft beers sets it apart from the capital’s other haunts.
It’s a sports bar where, if you’re not into sports, you’ll still have a good time.
Linehan describes the bar as having a “70s sports/glam rock feel” with screens for watching games on, as well as a killer selection of over 100 board games.
Unlike other sports bars that are “more about Budweiser or Heineken,” The Square Ball is all about craft beers, cocktails and natural wines.
(The pub defines natural wine as “100% pure grape wine without chemical or technological intervention”.)
So is it just another hipster bar? Linehan denied this and said that the term hipster is “too loosely used”.
Hipster is a term that’s just used that can’t even think of anything else to say.
The Square Ball is currently open for “pre-season training” and will open officially in mid-August.
