IT’S ONE OF life’s great dilemmas.
You’re out on a Saturday night and you’re in the mood for dancing.
But where to go?
1. Mother, Copper Alley
Every Saturday night, Mother serves up the best tunes in the city. Whether it’s vintage disco or Let’s Have A Kiki, you’re guaranteed to have a ball and dance your little arse off. Be warned: it might get sweaty.
2. Rí-Rá, Dame Court
Many a night has ended in Rí-Rá and with good reason — it’s a reliable place to have a bop and sing the, “Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo” part of No Diggity before getting a taxi. No guilt, no shame. Just good old-fashioned dancing.
3. The George, George Street
Want to hear all the best new pop tunes? Throw shapes to Nicki Minaj? Dance on stage? To The George!
4. Whelan’s, Wexford Street
There’s something very comforting about going for a dance in Whelan’s. You know that you’re going to hear Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand or Blur at some point. If you’re lucky, you might even be treated to a throwback indie tune from The Magic Numbers or The Fratellis.
If you’re on board with that, then it won’t disappoint. May we also recommend the silent disco, Ciunas, on Wednesday night for solid tunes and dancing.
5. Pygmalion, South William Street
The South William Street bar has (a) an excellent outdoor section and (b) solid tuneage.
They’ve also been known to bring over some rather well-known DJs. A quick gander at their forthcoming events reveals acts like Shit Robot and Jacques Renault are due over in the coming months.
Get thee there like lightning.
6. Xico, Baggot Street
We have heard tales of dancing on tables in Xico. Enough said.
7. Club Nassau, Nassau Street
If you enjoy dancing the night away to cheesy 1980s hits, then Club Nassau is the haunt for you. Popular with hen parties and the like, the club promises songs with “feel good factor”.

8. Coppers, Harcourt Street
Because no list would be complete without this national institution.
