YESTERDAY, IRELAND WAS more than slightly scandalised at the price of this salad from Avoca in Dublin.
Yep, that’s €16.95 for a salad, for one person. Many despaired that Dublin was once again losing the run of itself (and in a way, it is) but do not fear. There are many places to get a good lunch in Dublin for under €10.
1. Falafel from Umi, Dame Street
Umi’s €7.50 lunch meal deals are eat-in only, but you can get the amazing sandwiches or falafel boxes to go for around €6. If you’ve never tried falafel before, you know where to go.
2. Soup and a wrap at the Market Bar, Fade Street
For €6.95, you can have yourself a sandwich and a nice mug of soup - or add €1.55 and take it to the next level with a bowl of chips.
3. A burrito from Burritos & Blues
Tons of food for around €6-€7. Sure you’d be mad to go anywhere else.
4. A po boy from Blas Café, King’s Inns Street
This hefty sandwich of delicious pulled beef, gherkins and mayonnaise is €6.95. Nom.
5. The jerk Jamaican chicken salad from Staple Foods, Temple Bar/Grattan Street
Look at all that deliciousness! And for €9.50 to eat in (or €8.50 in a wrap).
6. The lunch deal from Neon, Camden Street
Neon is a particular favourite of Asian food lovers in Dublin, and you’ll soon see why. For €9.95 you get to choose any main course, a drink, AND have a go on their Mr Whippy machine for dessert.
7. A torta from Pablo Picante, Clarendon Street
These traditional Mexican-style sandwiches will certainly fill you up – the Tinga torta with pork, black beans and salad is our tip for €5.95.
8. A sausage roll from Lolly & Cooks in the George’s Street Arcade
Not your average sausage roll – these babies are almost sinfully tasty for €3.50.
If all this fails, you can always get a chicken fillet roll for €2.99 and three regular sausage rolls for €1 in just about any deli in the city centre. There’s always that.
