FEELING A BIT delicate today? Look away now, because this Tumblr, called The Last Message Received, is collecting the last messages people received from loved ones.
According to the New York Times, the project was started a couple of weeks ago by 15-year-old Emily Trunko – she says she has received more than 2,500 submissions so far.
The anonymous messages tell stories of ghosting, acrimonious breakups, and devastating loss.
My long-distance boyfriend and I talked on the phone every night before we went to sleep. We were in the middle of our nightly phone call when a friend stopped by his place… His final phone call and text at 12.40am was the last message I received from him. He died of a seizure in the middle of the night.
He never replied and I don’t know why.
My ex, who I was still friendly with at the time, after I walked in on him and my best friend sleeping together.
Last message my grandma sent me when she went into heart surgery. Died nine days later.
Trunko thinks that Last Message Received has taken off because the holidays are approaching:
A lot of people are getting more sentimental and thinking more about family and interacting with loved ones. I think Last Message Received can hit home with them.
