IF YOU HAVE long hair, you probably have one of these on you at all times so you can whip it back from your face whenever needed.
You even wear one on your wrist sometimes, right? Well, you might not want to after reading this.
A woman from Philadelphia was hospitalised with a life-threatening infection after bacteria from her hair tie cause an abscess in her wrist.
YEP. Bet you weren’t expecting that.
According to CBS, Audree Kopp first thought that she had gotten a spider bite on her wrists. Doctors gave her antibiotics, but the angry red bump continued to grow.
It just kept getting bigger, and redder, and worse… They said I needed surgery. Thank god I caught it in time or I could have had sepsis.
Dr Amit Gupta says Kopp had a large abscess on her wrist, likely caused by bacteria from her hair tie getting under her skin.
He has warned that while the infection is rare, you should not leave hair ties on your wrists for long periods of time, and to wash them if possible.
Dr Gupta, bobbles/hair ties/gogos will never touch our wrists. Ever. Again.
