WATCHING PLANET Earth II – “But how do they DO that?” Well, not without a bit of effort, it appears.
Last night’s episode was of course excellent, with these baby antelopes and a tenacious harvest mouse being particularly delightful moments.
But one of the most dramatic bits came in the Diaries segment, where the crew demonstrate how they capture the incredible footage we see on the show.
The team set a series of camera traps to catch the animals in the act, but returned the following day to find them completely destroyed.
Cameraman Sandesh Kadur stepped in to save the day – and saving the day, as it turned out, involved sitting in a makeshift grass hut for five days, as quiet as a mouse, while tigers routinely feasted on a rhino carcass nearby.
Not a bother for our Sandesh! He shot the footage and lived to tell the tale.
And the viewers at home were a little bit in awe of him. Just a little.
But after all that… The tigers weren’t even featured in the episode.
BBC, we the viewers are asking you to give Sandesh an extremely large Christmas bonus. It’s the very least you can do.
