HAVING BECOME THE biggest star in MMA, Conor McGregor is rumoured to be breaking into a new industry: Acting.
He reportedly has a cameo in the next season of Game of Thrones, but until then, he’s cutting his teeth doing ads for horse races. The glamour!
In this clip for the Pegasus World Cup Invitational, he stars as himself (so not a huge stretch), sick of the MMA game and looking to become a jockey:
Of course we have questions. There’s so much happening here.
Why does this journalist not know the reason he’s at the race track?
Does he just stand around on race tracks waiting for something to happen in the world of horse racing, or was he packed off by his editors without a word? Neither of these things will help him get the job done.
And why does he feel perfectly comfortable slagging off McGregor to his face?
You’re not supposed to insult the people you’re trying to interview, Mister.
Somebody’s been punched in the head a few too many times. Just because you’re good at running around in a cage with funny little shorts on…
He’s not well. That’s the only explanation for his whole character arc.
How did they rope Jon Lovitz into this?
Lovitz plays McGregor’s trainer – he’s a comedian and actor who has been in everything from Saturday Night Live to The Simpsons to The Wedding Singer. And now this. OK.
Is Conor McGregor…funny?
That was a good bit! Maybe he should move into acting in comedies, if he’s moving anywhere?
They say ‘Pegasus World Cup Invitational’ a lot, don’t they?
It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, does it?
“I will be competing in, and winning, the Pegasus World Cup Invitational.”
“But Conor, why the Pegasus World Cup Invitational?”
A doozy of an ad campaign, and it’s not finished yet – if the clip is to be believed, there are more instalments of The 13th Jockey to come. Great?
