This corporate Twitter account's tribute to David Bowie backfired spectacularly

Oh dear.

TODAY MARKS THE one-year anniversary of the death of David Bowie.

The iconic singer passed away on January 10th last year following a battle with cancer.

In honour of the one-year anniversary, fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late singer.

Earlier this morning, British Gas Help decided to hop on the bandwagon and sent the following tweet:

And people immediately ripped the piss out of it.

Poor Paul – the man who penned the original tweet – was forced to issue a tweet clarifying that he was just a fan wanting to “pay tribute to a master songwriter and true icon”.

Some people accepted the apology while pointing out precisely why the original tweet didn’t sit well.

While others remained deeply offended by the original tweet.

While others took the opportunity to align themselves with #TeamPaul.

At least his colleagues are taking his side, right?

Someone make Paul a cup of tea. It’s going to be a long day.
