EARLIER THIS WEEK, President Donald Trump successfully made a holy show of us with a line of Irish-themed Make American Great Again hats.
The hats, which Team Trump claimed would help you “capture the luck of the Irish,” drew consternation for featuring a four-leaf clover instead of a shamrock.
As you might expect, Irish people were rightly disgusted.
T-shirt manufacturer Hairy Baby even released a clever #AlternativeFacts t-shirt.
Now the New York Times is reporting that the hats have been “disappeared” from the website.
Intense.
A Trump spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, but customers are now redirected to a 404 error page if they follow the initial purchase link.
The New York Times article included this helpful explanation of the difference between a shamrock and four-leaf clover.
The hats went on sale last week in advance of the holiday, celebrated on March 17, and had a four-leaf clover — instead of a three-leaf shamrock — stitched on the back. A four-leaf clover is not a symbol of Ireland. It is just a plant.
It is just a plant.
No word yet on whether Team Trump will release a new hat to make up for the error.
One thing’s for certain, though – Enda Kenny will have to educate him in the ways of the shamrock.
