ON LAST NIGHT’S episode of At Your Service, the Brennans were tasked with reviving a GAA clubhouse in Co. Clare.
Francis and John Brennan visited Wolfe Tones Na Sionna GAA Club in Shannon, Co. Clare, with an aim to doing up the clubhouse ahead of a jubilee celebration.
It was unfamiliar terrain for the hoteliers, but they got stuck in immediately.
Here’s Francis Brennan messing about with a hurley.
“God, that’s a great roll of honour.” “Well, you’ll never see me on that anyway!”
Francis took a nose around the bar and decided that “everything needed a good reupholstery”
Cue shots of Francis stroking auld couches and stools that haven’t been upholstered since the 1980s.
In a bid to ‘modernise’ the clubhouse, Francis took the club registrar to the Beacon Hotel in Dublin to show off some trendy decor.
For instance, Francis showed her this seating area, which he thought was “a bed with a hole in it”
He explained that it wasn’t actually a bed with a hole in it, but rather a place where people can sit and have drinks.
The club registrar’s response? “It’s… different.”
Wouldn’t be for me now, etc.
Later on, Francis brought an interior designer to the clubhouse to show the committee some ideas.
We would wager it’s the first time someone has ever brought a mood board to a GAA club.
And here’s how the clubhouse ended up looking…
“Well now look at this!” Francis exclaimed. “Isn’t it great?”
Very trendy altogether.
A far cry from the clubs we frequented for teen discos, no?
Look at the hipster light fixture!
‘Tis far from hipster light fixtures we were raised.
Leave it to Francis Brennan, eh?
