As all avid viewers know, Philipps is not averse to posting a sweaty Instagram story every now and again. By which we mean she documents her sweaty workouts for all to see.
Unlike other celebrities, Philipps isn’t afraid to show the not-so-glamorous side of exercise.
Yesterday, the actress posted a photo on Instagram outlining why she’s not afraid to post such photos.
“Someone asked me if people like my sweaty Instagram stories and my feeling is that, honestly, I don’t really care all that much,” she wrote. “I post those for myself, as a f**k yes for showing up.”
She added that she doesn’t exercise to necessarily look good, but rather to help with her mental health.
I have anxiety and I have a tendency towards depression but I have found if I sweat like this, EVERY SINGLE DAY, I feel better, I’m calmer, I’m a better mom and those fogs of anxiety or sadness seem a little lighter.
I’ve been picking my skin less, engaging in less binge eating and I’ve just felt better about myself. (And obvi I go to therapy too) My goal is not some perfect bod (I like chips and salsa and margs too much for that) My goal is to feel the best I can in my body and my brain for the rest of my life.
In other words, her workout videos aren’t an exercise in vanity or about proving she’s better than you. Instead they’re about giving herself a pat on the back for showing up and taking care of herself. And couldn’t we all do a little more of that?
