THE LATEST SERIES of the ITV2 dating show Love Island has proven to be a huge hit, with Wednesday night’s episode pulling in 1.5 million viewers.
If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, it’s pretty simple: A rake of singletons move into a villa in Majorca and get paired off. Raunchy antics and drama ensues.
Last night’s ‘shocking’ twist saw the already paired-up boys and girls separated, and 11 new singletons introduced to the mix – and two of them were Irish.
The first, 25-year-old Rob Lipsett, is an “online influencer and public speaker” from Dublin who wears a top in approximately 15% of his Instagram pictures.
23-year-old Shannen Reilly McGrath, meanwhile, introduced herself as a “hot, curvy dental nurse” and self-described ‘Dublin Barbie’ from Tallaght.
The pair were introduced via big, dramatic, slow-mo walks to their respective villas….
…And were promptly never heard from again for the rest of the episode, lost amidst all the pre-existing drama. That didn’t stop people having lots to say about them, though.
Rob’s gone down a treat with female viewers, who are completely taken in by his Dublin accent:
Who knew an Irish brogue renders everything else about you moot? As a nation, we should be taking advantage of this more often.
Shannen’s voice, on the other hand, is apparently incomprehensible to viewers. (But in fairness, the phrase ‘hot curvy dental nurse’ is really something in a Dublin accent.)
Let’s hope they get more of an airing on tonight’s episode. Come on guys! Do something that would make your mam clutch her pearls in horror! It’s what you’re there for.
