BACK IN 2001, Colin Farrell was on the ascendancy with films like Tigerland and Ordinary Decent Criminal under his belt.

At the time, the notorious ladies man was dating a young British actress named Amelia Warner. Warner, the daughter of two actors, was arguably est known for playing the titular role in BBC’s Lorna Doone back in 2000.

The couple started dating in 2000. They were soon making appearances on the red carpet together attending swanky events like the premieres of Castaway, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and American Outlaws.

Sure they have been young – he was 24 and she was 19 – but they were in love!

The Guardian alluded to their romance in May 2001:

He’s certainly got the looks for it, which may explain why he’s rumoured to have been been cosying up to hot young actress Amelia Warner, best known for the title role in last year’s TV version of Lorna Doone .

While Amelia Warner’s Mam expressed her approval of the union in August 2001.

She co-starred with Kate Winslet in Quills and played the title role in the BBC drama Lorna Doone. Amelia has just got engaged to former Ballykissangel star Colin Farrell, 24, who is now a rising Hollywood actor. The couple announced their engagement last month when Annette was staying with them in LA.

“It’s great they’ve found each other,” she says. “I love him and it’s a relief for me that Millie’s met someone who looks after her and who she can trust. It’s rare that they’re both young but so ready to commit. And she didn’t have to kiss many frogs before she found her prince!”

Per this People wedding announcement, the couple got married on a beach in Tahiti in July 2001 with Farrell getting Amelia Warner’s nickname Millie tattooed on his ring finger.

However, the marriage only lasted a matter of months before the pair went their separate ways.

“Too fast, too young,” says Farrell of his four-month-long marriage to actress Amelia Warner (in 2001). He was 25 and she was 19 when they wed on the island of Bora Bora in July 2001 and he had her nickname, Millie, tattooed on his ring finger as a sign of his commitment.

At the time, Farrell joked that he might swear off women altogether and even become a priest.

One thing Farrell isn’t looking for is romance, since his July 2001 marriage to actress Amelia Warner, 19, ended after only a few months. “It’s all over and done and finished. Been there and back. I’m heading straight for a sabbatical,” says Farrell, teasing that his next stop is a seminary. “I can’t wait for a [priest’s] collar around my neck and the incense!”

Ten years later, Warner categorically denied that they had ever officially gotten married.

We didn’t actually get married – it’s not actually true. I think we’ve been too polite to deny it. We had a ceremony on a beach in Tahiti that was by no means legal and we knew it wasn’t.

She maintained that it was “just a thing we did on holiday” and stated that they “booked them both on the activities desk at the hotel”.

It really wasn’t this secret wedding that no one was invited to. It was lovely, it was silly, it was sweet but by no means was it a serious thing and I think my mum thought it was quite funny.

However, she also referred to Farrell as her “first love” and said it was “a very intense and passionate relationship”.

It was heartbreaking when it ended. I think it probably ended the way everyone’s first love ends.

Colin Farrell has since gone on to date many women and has two children, one with model Kim Bordenave and another with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus.

For her part, Amelia Warner only went and bloody married Jamie Dornan of all people. The couple wed in 2013 and have two children, Dulcie and Elva.
