The Offaly Rose has been crowned the Rose of Tralee for 2017
AND THE ROSE of Tralee for 2017 is…
The Offaly Rose!
24-year-old Jennifer Byrne, who hails from just inside the Offaly border with Westmeath, was crowned the Rose of Tralee earlier tonight. It is the first time an Offaly Rose has won the prestigious title.
Byrne is a newly qualified doctor and is currently working in the Accident & Emergency department at University Hospital Galway.
She’s also a talented sportswoman, having played for Ireland in soccer at U17 and U19 level. She currently plays with Galway WFC in the Women’s National League. Doctor and international soccer player? Mighty impressive, we’re sure you’ll agree.
Byrne was one of 64 competitors in this year’s Rose of Tralee, 32 of whom were featured on RTÉ’s broadcast over the last two nights.
Here’s the moment she realised she had won.

A proud day for Co. Offaly, no doubt.
Congratulations Jennifer!
