The young lads in that deadly Conor McGregor Beats By Dre are boxers from Ballybough

And they spoke to Newstalk today.

EALRIER THIS WEEK, Beats By Dre released a spine-chilling video in advance of Conor McGregor’s fight against Conor McGregor.

The three-minute video depicts young boxers in Dublin preparing for a fight spliced with footage of Conor McGregor preparing for his own bout. It also featured a rather wonderful choral rendition of Notorioius BIG’s Juicy, as performed by singers from Fingal Academy of Music.

Earlier this afternoon, Newstalk’s Tom Dunne chatted to some of the youngsters involved in the ad including Lewis Brophy and Evan Hamilton, two young boxers with Ballybough Boxing Club.

Brophy and Hamilton revealed that they were cast after the “a girl came down and said she was looking for three actors for the ad”.

We didn’t know Conor McGregor was in it, though.

The two boxers were cast after an audition process which saw them talk about a fight they had been in. “We had to brag about it,” they explained.

They also revealed that much of their dialogue was improvised and they were given freedom by the director to make up what they wanted to say. For instance, “What’s up, ugly?” was fully improvised.

The boys have yet to meet McGregor yet, but they have been in touch with him (“We had to send a video saying good luck”) and are hopeful they might get to meet the man himself after all the hullabaloo surrounding this weekend’s fight dies down.

Meanwhile, Fingal Academy of Music confirmed that they were also kept in the dark as to what the ad was for and told Dunne that they “didn’t have a clue” what the whole thing was about.

We just got a phone call about three weeks ago from a Dublin film studio Hinterland Studios asking if we’d be available to do a little bit of recording in Windmill Lane Studios.
We were told it was a music product. That was all we were told.

And they only saw the final product along with the rest of us.

We got an attachment that said, “Here, open this and have a look.”

Meanwhile, Lewis and Evan confirmed that they’re big fans of McGregor and will be cheering him on come Saturday night.

He motivates me when I’m training. I just think of what he was and what he is now, and that motivates me to train harder.
He came from being poor, basically. He had no money or anything and he just got all his money from working hard and determination.

Bring it on.
