20 tweets that sum up people's reaction to the new Great British Bake Off

It wasn’t that bad, was it?

WHEN IT WAS announced that Channel 4 had bought the rights to Great British Bake Off, viewers were sceptical. How could Channel 4 possibly do it justice? Wouldn’t it suffer from Mel and Sue’s absence? And what about Mary Berry?

Last night, it made its debut on its new home and *whispers* it wasn’t that bad.

As people sat down to watch it last night, they were open-minded, if a little bit cynical

Expect the worst, hope for the best and all that.

The big question on everyone’s lips was how Noel Fielding would fare.

Conclusion? He was a little out of place, but thoroughly charming nonetheless.

And suddenly everyone was like, “Okay, okay, this might actually work”

People still couldn’t help but pine for Mel, Sue and Mary, though…

Too accurate.

Fans still haven’t *quite* forgiven Paul

Elsewhere, the calories talk was *not* appreciated.

The ads were a minor nuisance at first…

But people soon learned to live with them.

Sure don’t they provide ample opportunity to make tea and shove Mr. Kiplings into your gob?

On the baking side of things, we couldn’t have asked for a better week, really. There were cakes, mini rolls and fancy “illusion cakes”

People were disgusted by the inclusion of peppermint in the mini rolls…

But fully impressed with these illusion cakes. Look at this watermelon cake! (#TeamFlo)

HOW IS THIS A CAKE? OUR MINDS CAN’T PROCESS IT.

All in all? It’s kind of the same, isn’t it?

Crisis averted.
