The RTÉ weather presenters lip-synced for their lives on the Ray D'Arcy Show and... well

Gerry Murphy makes a good Bono. Who knew?

THERE MAY HAVE been some serious star power on the Late Late on Friday, but last night’s Ray D’Arcy Show brought us back down to earth with a bump.

RTÉ weather presenters Joanna Donnelly, Gerry Murphy and Michelle Dillon were on to speak about the very serious matter of reporting on Storm Ophelia last month.

But then it was revealed that they would be taking part in the show’s reliably mortifying Lip Sync Battle segment, and well, all dignity quickly flew out the window.

The three of them were tasked with performing weather-themed songs – Michelle Dillon did an energetic rendition of Walking On Sunshine:

Joanna Donnelly went ALL OUT to Rihanna’s Umbrella – really, we weren’t prepared for this level of commitment on her part (though more to the attitude of the song, not the words):

Then Gerry Murphy surprised everyone by pulling out an weirdly decent Bono impression? We don’t know what to feel anymore.

We probably don’t have to tell you that the words ‘TV licence fee’ and ‘crap’ were being thrown around freely on Twitter last night.

But what we do have to tell you is that people have a newfound respect for Gerry Murphy.

Between this and Peter Kay running riot on the Late Late last night, there’s definitely something in the water in Donnybrook these days.
