What to watch on TV tonight: Saturday

This is the TV everyone will be talking about tomorrow.

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (RTÉ, 7.05pm)

The third part of the classic Disney Christmas adventure. Santa’s finding that toy production is severely lagging but is struggling to get things in order because his alter ego Scott Calvin is expecting a baby with his wife Carol. In laws want to come and visit, so he has to spend as little time as possible in the North Pole.

On top of all of that, the evil Jack Frost is on probation and under Santa’s supervision at the toy factory, which makes Santa wish he had never taken the role and responsibility that he has. Stress can get to everyone around this time of year. Even Santa.

The RTÉ Sports Awards (RTÉ One, 9.15pm)

Darragh Maloney and Joanne Cantwell present the annual award ceremony, celebrating the achievements of Irish athletes over the last year.

Before Midnight (RTÉ 2, 9pm)

An American romantic drama film where a married couple on holidays in Greece reflect on their lives and where they could have ended up if they had made different choices in life.

Everybody’s talking about… Ed Sheeran on The Late Late Show

He performed his new single ‘Perfect’, as well as a cover of ‘Fairytale of New York’ and reunited with the young girl he surprised on the Toy Show three years ago. All in all, a pretty decent appearance.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Final (BBC One, 6.30pm) Ed Sheeran will also stop by on this for a special performance. We can’t get him off our screens.

Feud: Bette and Joan (BBC2, 9pm) A new Emmy-nominated drama exploring the legendary rivalry between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Starring Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon.

Pitch Perfect (Channel 4, 9pm) Anna Kendrick stars as a new student at a school where she struggles to find her place, until she finds a group of misfits who share her talent for singing.

Word of the Year 2017 (Channel 4, 6pm) Countdown’s Susie Dent is joined by a selection of celebrity guests to reveal the most prominent terms of the year.

Chimpanzee (RTÉ, 7.35pm) Tim Allen narrates this nature documentary following the story of a baby chimp who is taught to survive in his natural habitat by his mother. A devastating attack on his troop means this little chimp will have to grow up a bit faster.

The Green Mile (Be3, 9pm) Everybody’s favourite supernatural prison drama.

After the Headlines: Charlie Bird (RTÉ 2, 11.05pm) A rerun of the harrowing documentary about the Stardust fire in Artane, which aired earlier this week.
