Showering at night vs showering in the morning: Which is the 'right' way?

THERE ARE MANY things that divide us in this world, some more controversial than others. But something that has unexpectedly turned into a hot button issue? Showering.

Yes, people feel very strongly about when they shower. The people who shower at night think people who shower in the morning are mad, and vice versa. But which is truly the best? Let’s argue for and against.

Scientists say that showering at night cools down the body and helps you to achieve a better sleep, but that’s probably not what you’re factoring in when you choose to shower at that time. No, you’re probably thinking about any and all of these things:

  • Night shower + clean pyjamas and sheets = bliss
  • You’re washing off the dirt and grime of the day before you get into your clean bed
  • You don’t have to get up as early in the morning
  • You can probably take a little longer in there, make it a bit more ~luxurious~

  • Anecdotal evidence supports the fact that the post-shower cold isn’t as punishing in the evening, probably because you can jump straight into your jammies
  • Also, standing in the shower in the morning sometimes feels like a test of physical endurance
  • More time for breakfast

Night showerers, as you can see, are a rather strident bunch. Those who shower in the morning are a little bit quieter about it, but there are definitely some upsides worth shouting about.

  • It’s a sure-fire way of waking you up
  • You’re freshened up for the day ahead
  • You can’t waste time lounging in your towel, which is fun but ultimately unproductive
  • You don’t have to carve shower time out of your precious evenings when you could be sitting down

  • Some people have bed head that cannot be rectified with a mere brush
  • People with longer hair have to go through the rigmarole of drying it before bed, whereas in the morning, it’s not as much of a priority
  • Showering in the morning is the only thing to do during the summer AKA peak Night Sweat Time

So which is best?

Really, it all comes down to which part of the day you value more. Want to spend your evenings relaxing? Shower in the morning. Need 15 minutes extra sleep and don’t have loads of hair to dry? Shower in the evening.

It seems simple, yet the debate rages on. Will the two sides ever be at peace? It’s hard to say.
